About Mike

I was born in Compton, California waaaay back in 1963. I am the oldest of the modern day Brady Bunch! I have a brother Chris, a half sister Martina, two step brothers, Ken and Michael, and a step sister Karin! Anyway, I lived in California until I was in third grade. I remember being teacher’s pet a lot. It didn’t hurt that my Mamaw was a retired teacher who had taught in my elementary school :-) Other memorable moments from my 8 years in California include climbing the magnolia tree in the front yard, my hamster squeaky, and riding out the 1971 Selmar Earthquake. Small and moderate quakes are fun! The big ones, not so much.

We moved to Oregon when I was eight. I was very active in my high school. I was Class President for three years and Student Body President for three weeks. I ran track and went to state my Sophomore year as part of our 4×100 meter relay team. I also played football and my Senior year played soccer. I was on the speech squad for three years and went to state in Radio Commentary my Senior year. I was a very good student at first, but I started to party more and more. The more I partied, the more I skipped school. By my Junior year I had quit football, was kicked off the track team and resigned as Student Body President. All pretty sad, I know. But God is restoring me. Also while I was living there, Mt. St. Helens blew up! We lived 60 miles away, but it was an awesome sight.

I moved to Roswell, NM when I was 21 to start my broadcasting career and spent 10 years there learning the biz. While working at KBIM TV I had a few Associated Press Awards. I was part of a Best Newscast Award (Weather Anchor). I also received Best Feature Story and Honorable Mentions for; News Photography, Editing, Spot News and Public Service Series. Roswell is also where I got married and where my son Michael was born! What a great kid!!!

After my divorce I moved to Lubbock, Texas to be near Michael. That was 1994. While at KLBK TV I received an Associated Press Award for Third Place Television News Web Site. Mostly though, I was a TV Weatherman on the morning show, and a party animal. In 2000 I became a Christian! I had to quit weather when I got saved because as a Christian you’re not supposed to lie! :-) (I love that joke) I quit the partying too, by the way, or I should say my idea of a party is a lot different now!
In 2002 I moved to Odessa, Texas to host the morning show on Family Life Radio’s AM/FM station there. After two years, I moved to Tucson to be the News Director for the network.

That’s where I am today. The hiking here is great! The weather is a bit hot for about half the year, but the storms during the monsoon are awesome, only to be outdone by the sunsets! Mt. Lemmon is less than an hour from the apartment. That’s where you’ll find a pine forest and snow in the Winter! I enjoy working on computers and watching football. I still love weather and watch it constantly. I like taking pictures too.

My son Michael is all grown up. He’s in the Army Reserve. He taught himself how to play the keyboard and how to speak German. He is an awesome student with a lot of awards to his credit. He’s also a good athlete with a 42″ vertical or something like that. He can grab rim, which ain’t bad for 5’7″! My step daughter Amber is married and has kids. She is the sweetest, most wonderful Mom and daughter. I love them both so much, and all of my grandkids too!
There are a lot of details to fill in. That’s where the blog comes in. God has done, and is doing, some wonderful things in my life, and in my heart!
Thanx for dropping by!
