Passionately Conservative
Why am I so Conservative? And why is that I trumpet it from the rooftops? Because conservative policies are the only ones that have a track record of working! As tax rates were cut and regulations were trimmed at the beginning of the Reagan administration the economy took less then a year to start pulling out of the Jimmy Carter malaise. By Reagan’s third year as President the concern was that the economy would overheat it was taking off so fast! Here is a comparison of Obama’s third year economy vs. Reagan’s. Reaganomics vs. Obamanomics? It’s no contest.
Similarly, in 1994 when Newt Gingrich launched his “Contract with America” and Republicans were swept into Congress the economy improved again. President Clinton was forced to move to the middle of the political spectrum, Congress balanced the budget and the country prospered.
What is happening in the economy now is criminal and preventable. 60 Minutes highlighted homelessness and specifically homeless kids on it’s program last night. You can see some of the highlights here at TheBlaze.com. I used to work at a non-profit that provides food for starving people around the world and even to help food banks in this country to stretch the food supplies they have. Attending food bank conferences around the country even back in 2003. I know first hand that there is a need for donations and volunteers at food banks and Gospel Rescue Missions and Salvation Army’s across the country. The need has risen exponentially as more people need help. The problem is in this economy less people are able to pitch in.
Coming out of the bursting housing bubble the Obama Administration should have moved quickly to cut Corporate Tax Rates to attract jobs to America and keep the ones that are here here. Instead the administration pushed for, and Congress passed, even more regulation in the form of Dodd Frank just to name one. Instead of attracting business to America we are bleeding jobs overseas. Then there is Obamacare, so-called “stimulus” and now the administration wants “stimulus” two. Are we really that stupid? The polls would suggest that we are not.
This country is rich in natural resources, including oil and natural gas. Yet, this administration is shutting down drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and dragging it’s feet on an already agreed to oil pipeline from Canada. Canada is our largest source of imported oil. Yet the Canadians are now ready to deal with China instead of this administration because we are not living up to the agreed timeline on the pipeline. In addition, the EPA is suing oil refineries in Texas and shutting down coal fired power plants and coal mines across the country. By emphasizing “Green” energy at the expense of oil, natural gas and even coal, this administration is throwing away billions in “stimulus” money by giving it to solar companies that have gone bankrupt.
The Obama Administration is hamstringing the energy sector that is itching to provide thousands of high paying jobs. The sectors that support energy would also benefit from increased business. EVERY sector would benefit. More jobs means more money in the economy. It really isn’t that hard to understand and yet the Progressives seem hell bent on undermining the economy and the country.
Back to the homeless kids in the UNITED STATES! It is immoral that this administration would continue to pursue the failed policies of the past three years. Stimulus has wasted TRILLIONS and unemployment is not only high, but it’s been high for a record period of time. The result? 1 in 4 children in this country need assistance. That is disgraceful. Parents can’t find work and there is no end in sight as long as the Progressives are running things. The pain is real. When people can’t work they lose their dignity. Suicide rates increase with unemployment. When unemployment is high the country is weaker and when the United States is weaker the world is a more dangerous place.
Why am I a Conservative? Because people’s lives depend on jobs and a strong country. When you see record numbers of homeless kids it breaks your heart. This is real life and policies and elections really matter.
Want to improve the quality of life in America? VOTE! and vote Republican at all levels of government. Smaller government and more jobs is the only way to get this country working again and that is the moral thing to do.
TUSD Ethnic Study Students Shut Down Meeting
If you are a news junky like I am then you probably already know what happened. If you live in Tucson, then you know that a lot of the country's craziness is happening right here. Here's one account of what happened:
I think the adults directing the children know that their time is short. After all, the class has been found in violation of state law.
There is so much to say on this subject and will try to carve out more time to say it in the coming days. The Blaze was kind enough to pick up some links that I sent them to La Raza studies. Go to their story and take a look at the handouts for yourself and see some of the anti-American hate that is presented in the class. Or, just surf over to TU4SD.com. They have a TON of information.
What floored me is when I learned that "Ethnic Studies" was being offered as a core curriculum class! In other words a student could chose La Raza and skip U.S. History and still graduate! Outrageous. The TUSD Board Meeting that was scheduled (and is now rescheduled for May 5th) was to decide if Ethnic Studies should be offered as an elective only. According to the Arizona Republic, some of the "adults" in the room are cheering the students on:
It certainly isn't the hapless governing board running TUSD that's in charge. Two of the board members could be seen pathetically cheering on the screaming students and former students during Tuesday night's melee.
No arrests were made, but charges still may be forthcoming.
Old Joel Rosenberg Interview
I was going through some stuff and stumbled on this. It's an interview I did with Joel Rosenberg when I was still News Director at Family Life Radio. It's the entire, unedited .mp3. It's a little long and even though it's a couple of years old, most of it applies today. If you have 13 1/2 minutes with nothing better to do, sit back and listen. If you only have 5, fast forward to the last 5 minutes or so.

Metaphor Free Zone
In the wake of the tragic events here in Tucson, there has been a national call to tone down the rhetoric. Republicans in the House no longer refer to “the job killing health care bill” but rather the “job crushing health care bill.” Earlier on CNN a guest said “in the crosshairs” when referring to a political race. Completely under acceptable according to new CNN metaphor standards.
Never mind that the accused killer of of six people in Tucson was influenced by his own demons and likely a movie called Zeitgeist. Not radio hosts. Not Tea Partiers.
Since metaphors are now public enemy number one, I thought it might be fun to come up with a top 9 list of forboden metaphors. (Top Ten Lists are a Copyright of Worldwide Pants). Here we go.
9. I could kill for a cigarette right now.
8. I could kill for a bowl of cherry vanilla ice cream right now (mmmm ice cream)
7. I’m so hungry I could eat a horse. (hey, horses are people too. sorta)
6. This political campaign is being targeted nationally.
5. This dress is to die for!
4. Those waves are like, totally killer.
3. Shop at Target
2. Hit me with your best shot, why don’t you hit be with your best shot. Fire away.
and the number 1 forbidden metaphor:
1. There goes Sarah Palin shooting off her mouth again.
Silly, ain’t it? The events in Tucson have been heart wrenching. It’s been emotional. Very emotional. But lets get one thing straight. The political rhetoric (or any other rhetoric) had NOTHING to do with it. ONE PERSON is responsible for what happened a week ago Saturday. The sooner we realize that, the sooner some of this other silliness will stop.
Continue to pray for Congresswoman Giffords. Her recovery has been amazing and is a shining example of the power of prayer. Continue to pray for the families of those killed too. I can’t imagine what they are going through.
I Have a Dream
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. A dream that is clearly a Biblical principle. That men would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day I think it’s appropriate to listen again to that amazing speech given in August of 1963.
There are some that complain that the Bible condones slavery. Dr. King, being a preacher of God’s Word, knew that that couldn’t be further from the truth. Unfortunately slave traders and slave owners of the 18th and 19th Centuries did what they could to cloud the issue and attempt to justify their sin. They pointed to passages in the Bible that seem to approve of slavery, but left out some very important facts.
The most important is that the slavery that was allowed in Biblical times was indentured servitude. Back then if you went into debt and couldn’t repay, you became a slave to pay off the debt. Once the debt was paid, or at Jubilee, a slave was to be set free and debt free. Many servants liked the way their masters took care of them and chose to stay as Bond Servants. (just as God’s people are called to be His Bond Servants)
Meanwhile, Man Stealing was explicitly forbidden in the Law and was punishable by death:
Exodus 21:16
16 “Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession.
Any slave trader who tried to justify kidnapping people to sell them into slavery by using the Bible was adding to their list of sins.
Indeed it was a Christian that fought to end the slave trade in England. They made a movie about the life of William Wilberforce, “Amazing Grace.” The famous hymn of the same name was written by a former slave trader who later became a member of the clergy. The song conveys the amazing grace of God who can rescue even a slave trader from his horrible sins thanx to the sacrifice made on the cross by God’s only Son Jesus!
If you want to know God’s heart when it comes to prejudice you can look at Moses and his sister Miriam. In Numbers Chapter 12 we learn that Miriam and Aaron were upset at Moses because he had married an Ethiopian. God got upset and gave Miriam a taste of Leprosy:
Number 12:9-11
9 So the anger of the LORD was aroused against them, and He departed. 10 And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper. 11 So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! Please do not lay this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.
Moses cried out to God to heal his sister and God answered, but only after Miriam stayed outside of camp for seven days. God says that man judges the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.. One of many great points that Martin Luther King, Jr. made in his speech was that man should see his fellow man as God sees him.
I have a dream that echos the dreams of Dr. King. That this nation will turn to Biblical principles. That God’s Word and Spirit would guide our individual words and actions. That lawmakers and those appointed in authority would look to God for guidance as they lead. And yes, that God would continue to bless America and that He would use His people to be salt and light always.
Arizona Governor Brewer’s State of the State Address Two Days after the Tucson Shooting
The Governor put aside her planned remarks and delivered a heartfelt message honoring heroes from Saturday. While we are in pain from the senseless violence from this past weekend we will not lose sight of what makes our country and our state great. Thank You Governor. May God be with you and all of us.
